(Children lead change for safer spaces in Ambedkar Nagar)

In Ambedkar Nagar, a simple yet powerful act of children’s participation has created lasting change. For months, theChildren’s Parliament (Bal Sansad), supported by the Sarva Seva Sangh (SSS) team and theChild Protection (CP) Member, raised concerns about the lack of safety at the community’s public toilet. Many girls were afraid to use it due to incidents and poor monitoring.

Instead of remaining silent, the children decided to act. Guided by SSS, they submitted a formal letter to the Hon’ble Assistant Commissioner, Bibwewadi Regional Office , requesting the installation of CCTV cameras for safety. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Bibwewadi Ward Office, responded positively. After three months of consistent follow-up, the cameras were installed on 11th October 2025.

Today, children especially girls feel safe and confident using the toilet. Parents and community members are proud of their children’s efforts and teamwork. This small yet meaningful achievement has boosted the children’s confidence and belief that their voices truly matter.

“We feel proud that our voice was heard,we want to make our area safe for all,”shared one young Bal Sansad member.

Under the theme “Child Protection and Care”, this initiative shows how empowering children to speak up and take action can strengthen the entire community.The story of Ambedkar Nagar is a powerful reminder:when given a platform and support, children can be true changemakers transforming their communities with courage, cooperation, and conviction. Indeed, the children of Ambedkar Nagar have proven that when given a chance, small voices can make a big impact.
